Questions

What counts as a writing day?

A day counts only if you write or edit in Sonetta Studio. The 30 days have to fall within 60 days of first opening it, so a month away from writing doesn’t use any of them.

What happens when the trial ends?

You move to Free and keep writing; nothing you made is locked. The Pro tools come back when you enter a key in the License window.

Do I still need a DAW?

For a finished recording, yes. Sonetta Studio records takes into a section, which is enough for a work tape. When you go to track, the lyric and chords export as PDF or ChordPro, and on Pro the chords, the sung melody and the words go to your music program as a MIDI file, with a lead sheet for the players.

Does Sonetta Studio need the internet?

Not to write. Songs, recordings and the license stay on your computer. There is no account and no tracking. The app goes online in three cases. Entering a key activates it on this computer, and freeing a computer or removing the license updates your license’s list; each happens when you click, and the window shows what it sends first: the key, a random id the app made for this computer, the computer’s name, and the app’s version. Send Feedback posts your words only when you click Send, and What will be sent lists every field first. Once a day, unless you switch it off, Sonetta Studio downloads one small file to see whether a newer version is out; the comparison happens on your computer and nothing about you is sent. Like any connection, each of these carries your internet address. Buying a key happens here in your browser.

Which computers does it run on?

Macs with Apple silicon on macOS 13 (Ventura) or later, and PCs with a 64-bit Intel or AMD processor on Windows 10 or later. There’s no phone or iPad version.

Can I use my license on more than one computer?

Yes, on up to 3 computers at once. Enter the same key on each. The License window lists your computers and frees one in a click when you move to a new one, even one that’s lost or broken; a fourth is refused with that list, never with a lock on your work.

Will the price go up?

Yes, as Sonetta Studio proves itself. Pro is $49 at the founder price and $69 once the app has been through its first weeks with real writers, with an interim $59 if 500 licenses or six months come first. The price you paid never changes, and your version keeps working for good.

What do updates cost?

Nothing for 24 months at the founder price, or 12 months after it. Then the version you have keeps working for good, and a yearly updates plan is $29 if you want new versions. It is never pre-ticked at checkout.

Is there an education price?

Yes: 30% off the interim and full prices. [How to ask.]

I lost my key. How do I get it back?

Enter the email you bought with on the license page and we’ll send the key to that address again.

How do refunds work?

Refunds go through Paddle, who took your payment as the merchant of record. [Refund window and how to ask.]
